when you read how many people did not attend Memorial Events you realize how little people care--when I was young you use to see 50 small children in parades with their bikes all decorated in red, white, and blue ex-soldiers in their uniforms marching and everyone and I mean everyone saluted the flag when it passed by and the men removed their hats and put them over their hearts--I for one still have great respect for this beloved country and the men and women in uniform who serve willing to give us the freedom we have--GOD BLESS AMERICA--that is why everyone wants to come to our country

I now live in Sneads Ferry, NC, right across the New River from Camp Lejeune. Sneads Ferry, a small fishing village, has an annual Memorial Day Parade and anyone can be in it. The only requirement is to carry an American flag. The parade is followed by a Memorial service and a community picnic. I grew up in East Springfield and have many wonderful memories of its annual Memorial Day Parade. I wish now that I would have paid more attention to and talked with the WWI veterns. Whenever I remember the East Springfield Memorial Day Parade, I can't help but think of the work and dedication that Lewis (Lou) Call put into it. Lou Call passed away a few months back but is remember by me this Memorial Day as a person who was devoted to his community, especially the Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony. Thank you, Lou.
