ATV driver injured
EMPIRE - Dearl Harris, 46, of 541 township Road 211, Bloomingdale, remained in critical condition at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center on Tuesday following an ATV accident Saturday on county Road 68, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.
Harris was driving north on county Road 68, near state Route 152, around 11 p.m. Saturday when his ATV went off the right edge of the road, hit an embankment and Harris was ejected from the vehicle, the patrol reported. The ATV continued on and hit a utility pole.
Harris was flown by medical helicopter to the Pittsburgh hospital, the patrol reported.
The accident remains under investigation.
State Route 9
to be closed
CADIZ - State Route 9 will be closed to traffic beginning at 6 p.m. Friday at the entrance to the Harrison County Airport for removal of an overhead bridge, the Ohio Department of Transportation reported.
The road will remain closed until 6 a.m. Monday while a construction crew removes and demolishes the overhead bridge owned by Consol Energy.
Beginning at the intersection of state Route 9 and state Route 519 in New Athens, traffic will be detoured east on state Route 519 to U.S. Route 250 north and west to state Route 9 in Cadiz and reverse, ODOT reported.
to discuss personnel
WINTERSVILLE - Village Council will meet in executive session at 6:30 p.m. Thursday to discuss personnel issues prior to the council meeting at 7 p.m.
WEIRTON The controlled bowhunt in Weirton will be held from Sept. 29 through Dec. 31, according to the Weirton Police Department.
All participants must be residents of Brooke or Hancock counties.
All hunters planning to participate are required to attend one of the pre-hunt meetings, which will be held at the Millsop Community Center. Meetings will be held on at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sept. 8 and at 6 p.m. on Sept. 17.
Potential hunters must bring an International Bowhunter Education Foundation card, drivers license or photo identification and a pen to complete applications and paperwork. These items are required.
Revised regulations governing the hunt, hunting permits, maps of the hunting areas and other documents will be issued at the pre-hunt meetings.

to hold steak fry
BEECH BOTTOM - The Beech Bottom Fire Department will hold a steak fry from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at the fire station.
Tickets are $20, which includes a 12 ounce sirloin, baked potato with condiments, salad, roll and beverage. There will be a disc jockey and drawings.
