Ladies, are you ready for a "Girls' Night Out?"
The American Red Cross Jefferson County Chapter hopes so.
This "Girls' Night Out" late-summer fundraising event will be held Aug. 15 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the "Bates Barn" located at 4698 county Road 26, Wintersville, to benefit rape crisis services.
Mary Joy VanDyne, left, rape crisis advocate, and Kathy Musso, executive director of the American Red Cross Jefferson County Chapter, show off some of the designer purses filled with goodies that will go on the auction block as part of festivities at the ‘Girls’ Night Out’ fundraiser set for Aug. 15.
Rape crisis advocates and volunteers Susie Gibson, Carol Hunt, Mary Joy VanDyne, Janet Mayle, Tonia Cobb, Kay Murray and Kelly Camarote have planned a fun-filled evening, according to Kathy Musso, the chapter's executive director.
For $35 per person, patrons will enjoy a light menu of chicken or beef kabobs, shrimp cocktail, cheeses and crackers, fruit, smores cookies and other sweet treats. "You may even roast a marshmallow or two," Musso said.
Patrons will enjoy spirited beverages of sangria, peach lemonade, champagne and soft drinks that will be served by Red Cross celebrity waiters John Cucarese, Kyle Brown, Joe Loizzo, Ken Perkins, Jim Conrad, Brian Applegarth, Troy Stewart and Nate Spears, who will wait on patrons.
There will be an auction of designer purses that include mystery items inside such as beauty products, restaurant gift cards, jewelry and perfume. Janet Mayle of Mary Kay Cosmetics will demonstrate the latest make-up tips, and neck massages will be offered by George Komar, massage therapist. Music will be provided by disc jockey Scott Feist.
Proceeds will benefit "rape services to provide free counseling, sweatsuits after a forensic exam as clothing will be taken as evidence, and providing training for volunteer advocates. Additional funding is provided by Victims of Crime Assistance through the attorney general's office and United Way of Jefferson County," Musso explained.
"It will be a great evening to come out and relax with friends, family and co-workers," Musso said of the fundraiser sponsored by IBEW/NECA, Legal Hair and Day Spa, the Ville Restaurant, Tri-State Financial Services, World Radio Telecommunication, Tri-State Security, American National Insurance, Franciscan University of Steubenville, Barium & Chemicals, Hauser Furniture and Carpenter's Local Union No. 186.
Valet parking will be provided.
Reservations with a credit card can be made by calling (740) 264-7244. "Order early as space is limited," Musso said, noting tickets will be available at the event but advance sales are preferred.
