Valley Pastors Network meeting
kicks off new year Wednesday
The Valley Pastors Network, an informal gathering of pastors representing various denominations across the community, will be kicking off its new year, meeting at 8 a.m. on Wednesday at Word of Life Fellowship, 565 Lovers Lane, Steubenville.
Meetings will continue to be held there on the first Wednesday of each month.
The Valley Pastors Network is a group of Ohio Valley pastors and clergy who desire mutual, ecumenical prayer, support and fellowship with one another, according to a news release. The meetings, which last approximately 75 minutes, also include coffee and light breakfast refreshments.
The group welcomes pastors from all across the Valley. All local clergy are encouraged to attend.

Hopedale United Methodist pastor receives doctorate of ministry
Pastor Ruby Foutz of Hopedale United Methodist Church received her doctorate of ministry on June 21 from Dyer Times Ministry College in Moundsville.
As a student she maintained a 4.0 average and received recognition for perfect attendance throughout her school years. She is a member of the faculty and has taught for the last three years.
Foutz is pursuing her doctorate of counseling and is working on her internship. She holds a master's degree in counseling and takes continuing education classes at Spring Heights, Spencer, W. Va.
In addition to celebrating her graduation, Foutz also marked her fifth year as pastor of Hopedale UMC in July.
Foutz also serves as an on-call chaplain for Harrison Community Hospital and as vice president of the Harrison County Association of Churches.
She and her husband, Merle, reside on the outskirts of Jewett.
Free picnic, concert Thursday at
New Beginning Baptist Church
New Beginning Baptist Church, located at 1202 Lincoln Ave., Toronto, will host a free picnic and concert in the parking lot on Thursday, beginning at 6 p.m.
Participants are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and a guest.
Dennis Benton, a gospel singer from Charlotte, N.C., will be performing.
In the event of inclement weather, the picnic and concert will be held indoors.
Richmond United Methodist Women have summer outing at Martha Manor
The Richmond United Methodist Church's United Methodist Women held their annual visit with the residents of Martha Manor in Steubenville on July 24.
President Sue Frye lead the group in prayer.
Church member Adam Kiaski provided entertainment with his guitar and vocal selections.
Refreshments were served in the dining hall by UMW members Betty Hout and Sandy Burruss.
Wintersville Community Chapel
to welcome new pastor
Wintersville Community Chapel at 27 Ward Drive, Wintersville, will welcome its new pastor during a special service on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m.
The congregation will welcome Pastor Michael D. Mantos, a graduate of Indian Creek High School, and his family, including wife, Janet, and children Jeriah and Selah, who are lifelong area residents.
The service will include music provided by the Chrisagis Brothers and the church's praise band. There will be a light luncheon following the service.
"We welcome all who wish to attend this special time for our church as we celebrate a new direction at the Wintersville Community Chapel," a church spokesperson said.
Children services also are provided.
Two Ridges plans annual summer
concert at 'the Bates Barn'
The annual summer concert of the Two Ridges Presbyterian Church, Wintersville, will be held Aug. 10 at "the Bates Barn" located on county Road Road 26., Wintersville. Ron Retzer will present a concert at 3 p.m., performing a variety of audience-favorite selections. Admission is a canned good for the church food pantry. Those planning to attend are advised to bring a lawn chair.
Sacred Heart of Mary celebrating
Polish Fest on Sunday
Sacred Heart of Mary Parish in Weirton will celebrate its annual Polish Fest from noon to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Serbian Picnic Grounds in Weirton.
The festivities will begin with a Polka Mass at noon with music provided by Tom Zielinsky on his accordion. He also will provide musical entertainment from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Traditional Polish cuisine, including cabbage rolls, haluski, kielbasa and pierogies, will be available after the Mass in addition to roast beef, meatballs, hot dogs and baked goods.
The Honky Express band from Cleveland will entertain from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Carnival games will be available "for the young and young-at-heart."
Drawing tickets are available for $10 each, with prizes of $2,000, $1,000 and two $500 ones to be awarded. The winning tickets will be drawn at 8:30 p.m. Admission is $3 per carload. For information, call the church office at (304) 723-7175.
Sing Praise MusicFest 2014
Aug. 9 in Burgettstown
The contemporary Christian music band Led by Mercy will host the Sign Praise MusicFest 2014 on Aug. 9 at Victory Life Worship Center, 590 Steubenville Pike, Burgettstown.
The outdoor event, which is minutes from First Niagara Pavilion, will be held from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will feature original contemporary Christian music artists Victory Life, Cross Vision, Awake from Dawn, RU808, Circle of One and Led by Mercy.
