The Tri-State Marine Corps Club met July 14 at the Serbian Cultural Center in Weirton with Commandant Edgile Covey presiding and leading in opening exercises.
Thirty-four members attended the meeting where discussion included the club's participation in the Follansbee Community Days Parade with many positive comments received from parade observers.
Members were reminded the club's picnic will be held Aug. 3, beginning at noon at the Fireman's Field in New Cumberland with games for children, drawings, a white elephant sale and free food and beverages.
Ralph Gaffoli announced the Marine reunion at Yemassee, S.C., will be held Oct. 17. Marine recruits heading for Parris Island would disembark trains at Yemassee where this would be their last moments of freedom for 13 weeks, it was noted.
Jim Thompson announced the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Scio will hold an auto show beginning at 11 a.m. on Aug. 16. The Tri-State Marine Corps Club will have members present with displays to promote the club and solicit new members at the Harrison County event.
Members were reminded of the free breakfasts held every Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Weirton Ponderosa. This has been a club benefit for the past several years, and all club members are welcome.
The annual Marine Corps Birthday Ball was set for Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. at the Serbian American Cultural Center. Advertisements for the event program can be purchased by contacting Dan Lyons at (304) 564-3186.
