July 12, 2014
Herald-Star
Representatives of St. Mark Lutheran Church’s Lutheran Women’s Missionary League of the Mary of Bethany Ladies Aide attended the 25th biennial convention held June 20-22 in Independence. They were Dee Guio, Janie Bull, Jean Reitter, Karen Krause and Betty Zibritosky. Guio and Bull, both delegates, voted on a number of mission grants that the league will be funding for 2014-15. The theme of the convention was “Make Me a Servant.” Among the mission grants are Care Today, Serve Today in Appalachia, Support for Center of Refuge Orphanage in Jacmel, Haiti, and Military Veterans and Family Members Care Provider Training Programs. All of the money that funds the grants comes from the collection of mites from each individual member. The mission grants totals $98,000 for the Ohio district alone. Church services and Bible studies were conducted for the women by a number of Lutheran pastors who were invited to attend. At the Saturday evening banquet, the convention attendees were entertained by the Singing Angels of Cleveland. The national convention will be held in Des Moines, Iowa, in 2015.
