WEIRTON - The Weirton Area Water Board heard updates on projects and voted on officers for the year during its regular meeting Thursday.
Jonathan Carpenter of Thrasher Engineering updated the board regarding the East End Tank and treatment plant distribution alternatives, for which financing options are being researched. Nearly all other aspects of the two projects are completed at this point, Carpenter said.
Utilities Director A.D. "Butch" Mastrantoni will be working with Carpenter and local banks to organize a specific, step-by-step plan leading up to payments for the projects. A previous water board debt is set to mature in 2016, and Mastrantoni hopes to set up financing so the payments ending will offset the new ones. Their plan will be presented to the board at next month's regular meeting.
Board members voted unanimously to authorize a contract with Ranney Collector Wells, a division of Layne Heavy Civil, to inspect a well at the treatment plant for $14,977. Sam Stoneking Jr., secretary, said the inspection had been included in last year's budget, but was never completed.
In other business, board members voted to re-elect Jim Shockley as chairman, Don Gianni as vice chairman, Sonny Marino as treasurer and Stoneking as secretary.
