Satellite veterans office to be open in Dillonvale
The satellite office of the Jefferson County Veterans Service Commission will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Dillonvale American Legion, Liberty Street, Dillonvale, to assist veterans, dependents of veterans and/or veterans' widows with Veterans Administration pensions, compensations, burials, schooling, medical assistance and other veterans' benefits.
For information or assistance, call the Veterans Service Office at (740) 283-8571 or visit the office at 500 Market St., Suite 310, Steubenville. Office hours are from 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
It is closed every Wednesday afternoon to the public.
Smithfield auxiliary hosting
spaghetti dinner Sunday
The Smithfield Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 396 will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser at the Legion post in Smithfield from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Patrons can dine in or get carryout. Delivery also will be offered.
Orders can be placed by calling (740) 733-8116.
Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children. Those under age 5 eat for free.
Mingo Knights of Columbus
announce July events
The Mingo Knights of Columbus Council 4361 has announced events for July.
The meeting that normally would be held on Thursday has been canceled because of the Fourth of July holiday. Thursday, however, is the deadline for reservations for the July 7 installation dinner that begins at 5:30 p.m. Those planning to attend should call (740) 535-8037.
Also on the calendar this month are:
July 17, Knights of Columbus meeting at 7 p.m. with food served afterwards.
July 22, last day to make reservations for the Family Day. Call the hall at (740) 535-8037. Family Day will be held at the hall on July 27, beginning at 1 p.m. Council will supply the hot dogs, hamburgers, pop and paper products but those planning to attend are asked to bring a side dish, vegetables, salad or fruit.
There is no admission, but reservations should be made by calling the hall, according to Shawn Zarych, grand knight.
Class plans homecoming dress extravaganza July 12
The Weir High School Class of 2017 will host a homecoming dress extravaganza from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 12 at the Weir High gymnasium located at 100 Red Rider Road, Weirton.
Dresses in a variety of sizes, colors and styles, shoes, jewelry and accessories will be available.
Sales are cash and carry.
Toronto group welcomes
new members, guests
Guests and new members were introduced when Doris Matyas presided at the Toronto Senior Citizens meeting held June 26.
Guests were John and Joyce Grodhaus, and new members are Lisa Rex and Bill and Mary Straka.
The blessing for the covered dish dinner was given by Bob Haught. Ken Woodward led the members in opening ceremonies. Rosemary Bonofine gave her report.

Deanna Starr won the 50-50 drawing. Door prize winners were Linda Ragsdale, Pat Pfabe, Dolly Robinson and Laura Mamula.
