The Wintersville American Legion Post 557 held its first membership drive on Flag Day from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 14 before conducting its yearly "Retirement of Colors" ceremony.
Approximately 200 community members were on hand to take part in the festivities that included the installation of newly elected Sons of the American Legion, Legion and Lady Auxiliary officers.
The membership drive was the idea of newly elected Commander Holly Lewis.

Music and food were provided by the Legion, and all new members' dues for the 2014-15 year were paid for by the Legion Post 557.
There were five new Legion members, seven SAL members and 18 new Ladies Auxiliary members recruited.
Wintersville Mayor Robert Gale and retired Navy Seal Frank Hoagland were on hand as well as the Boy Scouts from Troop 415 from Starkdale Presbyterian Church, Steubenville, to participate in the "Retirement of Colors" ceremony in which approximately 1,000 flags were disposed of.
