Members of the Serve Others Circle of Kings Daughters and Sons met May 20 at the YWCA of Steubenville for a noon luncheon meeting.
Ruth Ann McLaughlin presided and gave the blessing.
Reports were given by Lucille Smith, secretary, and JoAnn Birney, sunshine chairman, who collected the members' blessing jars.
Members discussed the April tour of the historical James House as maintained by its present owner, James Ludwig. The tour by eight members and guests followed a luncheon meeting at Naples Restaurant.
Smith presented the May program, discussing the order. King's Daughters and Sons began Jan. 13, 1886, at the home of Margaret Bottom, a Methodist minister's wife, in New York state. She and nine other women formed the order with Bottom serving as president until her death in 1906.
The motto is "Look up and not Down; Look Forward and not Back; Look Out and Not In; and Lend a Hand," she explained. The purpose of the order is "the development of spiritual life and stimulation of Christian activities."
Kings Daughters and Sons support the Chautauqua Scholarship Program, the North American Indian Scholarship Program and Maplecrest Home. In 1914 there were 33 branches in the United States and Canada. There are circles in many countries, Smith noted.
Members repeated a litany for Founders Day.
McLaughlin was hostess. The next meeting will be held in September.
