Special service at Wintersville church
The Wintersville Baptist Temple will honor all veterans, dignitaries and government officials in attendance during the 24th-annual Memorial Day service set for Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
There will be patriotic songs by the congregation; a recitation given about the American flag history by World War II veteran Ellsworth Graham; and singing by Thomas Graham and David L. Smith.
Testimonies will be given by several armed services personnel from World War II, Korea, Vietnam and others who have served the country and protected its freedom.
Pastor John A. Beard, an Army Vietnam era veteran, will give the morning message, "God's Amazing Offer to America." Following the worship service, the congregation will gather at the flag pole for a solemn service honoring all those who served. The honor guard squad will present a 21-gun salute during the lowering of the flag to half staff.
The outdoor service will end with an indoor picnic for everyone. There will be a display of military uniforms, ribbons, medals, awards and other items. Inquiries can be directed to the church office at (740) 264-7786.
