President Jane Antonucci presided at the May 12 meeting of the Italian American Cultural Club where Carol Almonte, chaplain, read a Mother's Day prayer before the dinner.
New members attending for the first time were Jennifer Deemer, Marlene Doyle, John Cucarese and Cathe Basil.
Reports were given by Mike Zinno, treasurer, and Dorothy Pashke, sickness and bereavement.
Tami Cashioli announced 60 campers have registered for Campo Italiano in June, and training continues for 21 youth leaders. She has applied for a community grant through the United Way of Jefferson County. Various ways club members can provide assistance were outlined. Campo planning meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at Tim Horton's. To help, contact Cashioli at (740) 632-6029.
Mariella Pittera announced Una Serata will be held Aug. 1 at St. Florian Hall. Featured regions will be Umbria, Marche, Calabria and Puglia.
The annual picnic is set for Sept. 7 with Raymond Piergallini as host.
Discussion was held on renting a bus to go to a Pirates game on June 29. Anyone interested should contact Antonucci at (740) 765-4287.
Musical entertainment was provided by members along with Rick Pastre on the accordion.
The 50/50 drawing was won by Irma Filippi. Two complimentary dinners were won by Filippi and Donna Balzano.
The club received 11 applications for scholarships with five $1,000 scholarships to be awarded.
The recipients are Gabriella Gentile, daughter of Anthony and Rita Gentile, Wheeling Central Catholic High School; Monica Werkin, daughter of David and Sheila Werkin, Catholic Central High School; David Ryan, son of Richard and Patricia Ryan, Wheatland Union High School; Michael Manfresco, son of Michael and Wendy Manfresco, Catholic Central High School; and Kayla Collier, daughter of Frank and Maria Collier, CCHS.
