RICHMOND - Mother Nature wins again.
For the fourth time, the Ohio Division II Eastern District Sectional Tournament out at Jefferson Lake State Park has been postponed due to rain.
Saturday's schedule sectional final game between No. 2 seed Big Red (21-7) and top-seeded Indian Creek (15-2) called off shortly after his scheduled start time of noon. The game will now be played at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
"We are back again with another delay," Indian Creek head coach Angela Penner said.
The game was called off before a single pitch was thrown.
"It's Mother Nature," second-year Big Red head coach Gus DiMarzio said. "It is what it is. Indian Creek is in the same boat we are. You can't do anything about it. We just have to go home and get prepared for Monday."
Indian Creek advanced to the title tilt by defeating Edison, 3-1, in the semifinals Friday.
During the Redskins game against the Wildcats (10-14), Edison senior Kayli Stewart was injured in the third inning, and she was unable to continue in the game.
"Our team wants to wish Kayli Stewart good luck with her injury," Penner said. "We offer our best wishes to her."
Big Red advanced to the championship game by blanking Buckeye Local, 8-0, in the semifinals Wednesday.
Indian Creek has won the last two sectional titles. Big Red has not played in a sectional final since 2006.
"I don't know if we have ever really got started this year," Penner said. "You don't want to get anyone hurt. I'm sure Steubenville would agree. It is not worth it, especially in a sectional final.
"I want to thank Coach (Spencer) Bendle and Coach (Matt) Morrison for all of the work they did trying to get the game in.
"It has been a bad spring.
"We are just going to have to come back Monday excited and ready to go."
The championship game was originally scheduled to be played on Thursday.
"Mother Nature has not cooperated," DiMarzio said. "We were prepared to play."
The Redskins have defeated Big Red in the sectional semifinals in each of the last two seasons.
"Both teams were ready to play," DiMarzio said. "We are anxious to play. This weather stinks. If anyone knows Mother Nature have them give her a call and tell her to give us a break."
