Tillio Petrozzi, 81, of St. Clairsville, OH, passed away on May 13, 2014, at Liza's place in Wheeling WV, surrounded by his loving family.
He was 11th of 12 children born to Loreto and Mary Petrozzi.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by Adeline and husband Henry Paravano, Armand (Mundy) and wife Marie, Rocco and wife Minda, Louis (Geegee), Dominic, Millie and husband Pat, Alfonso (Fonzi) and wife Ellen, Anthony (Tony) and wife Annette and brother-in-law Jim Riley.
Surviving are Louise, his wife; sons, David (Stephanie) of Powell, Steven (Jill) of Ormond Beach, FL, Tom (Lisa) of Fort Myers, Rich (Barb) of St. Clairsville, and John (Susan) of St. Clairsville; and sisters, Lucille Riley, Pearl Everson and sisters-in-law, Mary Ann (Dominic) and Mary (Louis) and seven grandchildren.
He was an avid sportsman and fan who played football and basketball at Smithfield High School and football at the University of Iowa.
Ohio Ferro Alloys hired Tillio immediately after graduation. He joined the Air Force in 1954 and became Loadmaster of C122 cargo planes. Tillio was appointed to the Air Cadet program in 1955.
Upon return from discharge from the Air Force, Tillio resumed work at the Ohio Ferro Alloys in Brilliant. At the age of 35, he was promoted to plant manager at Brilliant. Three years later, Tillio was promoted to Plant Manager of the Brilliant and Powhattan locations in charge of approximately 500 people.
In 1975, Tillio left Ohio Ferro Alloys in favor of going into business for himself in the coal mining industry. Through the ups and downs, he enjoyed great success with his ventures, including Eastern Ohio Coal, Monroe Mining, RiJon Inc., New Horizon Youth Center and TP Mining. In 2007, he founded Egypt Valley Stone in Morristown, OH, with his sons Richard and John, which is still in operation today.
Tillio was well known by his peers as being a man of his word and integrity. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Clairsville where he sang with the choir and cantored during Mass.
Tillio leaves behind his lifetime partner and loving wife Louise Evelyn Kuhn Petrozzi, whom he married in 1958 and whose support was instrumental in Tillio's success. Louise is the daughter of Earl and Marion Kuhn, sister to Richard (Dick) Kuhn and Phyllis Ziegler and of Toronto, OH.
Friends will be received at the Beck-Altimyer Funeral Home on Friday, May 16, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church in St. Clairsville.
