MARTINS FERRY - The Indian Creek softball team continued its successful week with a 1-0 win over Martins Ferry on Friday.
Paige Geanangel struck out eight, only allowed two hits, and didn't issue a walk on the mound for the Redskins (14-2).
"We teach our players not to be outworked in a game or in life," said Creek coach Angie Penner. "You have to think, 'I can, I will, I am.' If not, then you think, 'Should've, would've could've. The girls are buying into the positive thoughts."
The lone run came in the top of the fifth inning. Bethany Davis led off with a double then Hannah Webb advanced her to third on a single to center field.
Then, on a 1-1 count to Sydney Karis, Webb got in a run down on a steal attempt to second. Davis bought time on third before breaking to the plate for the score.
"It was a great heads up play by two of our seniors," Penner said.
The Redskins will begin sectional play on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. They will face the winner of Beaver Local-Edison at Jefferson Lake State Park.
