"The number of families applying and the number of camp weeks requested increases each year," said Jessi Becker, OI development director. "It is our goal to be able to offer full scholarships for multiple weeks to as many children who meet the requirements. Fundraising events like Fashion Rocks, coupled with grant support from the James B. Chambers Memorial Foundation, provide tremendous assistance in meeting that goal."
Becker said that 81.2 percent of the OI scholarship recipients are from households whose income is below Ohio County's median income. More than 37.5 percent of the recipients are from households whose income is less than $20,000 per year.
