Gilda DeSander, 86, of Mingo Junction, Ohio, passed away Friday, April 25, 2014, in her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born October 22, 1927, in Mingo Junction, Ohio, a daughter of the late Pasquale and Concieta (Gizzi) DiCarlo.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 15 siblings.
Gilda dedicated her life to being a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and was active in the Catholic Womens Club. She also worked in the family business DiCarlo's Market, which was started by her father.
Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Christ F. DeSander, whom she married on October 30, 1948; three daughters, Karen (William) Morris of Steubenville, Ohio, Michelle Tipton of Mingo Junction and Yvonne (Paul) Shuman of Franklin, NC; a son, John DeSander of Mingo Junction; nine grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 101 Longview Ave., Mingo Junction.
Gilda will lay in state at St. Agnes Catholic Church on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of her Funeral Liturgy with Mass at 10 a.m. with Rev. Fr. James M. Dunfee, as celebrant. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Mingo Junction.
There will be a vigil service on Sunday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
