Wintersville Council sets special meeting
WINTERSVILLE - A special Village Council meeting is planned at 7 p.m. Thursday at the municipal office, 200 Grove St., to award bids for lift stations for the village's Phase II sewer project.
Sleep Outfitters sets grand opening
STEUBENVILLE - Mattress retailer Sleep Outfitters will celebrate the grand opening of its new store in the Hollywood Shopping Center from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, and someone will win a dream vacation for two.
The public is invited to attend and enjoy refreshments and a chance to win the vacation package, including hotel and airfare, to one of a dozen destinations.
WOGH-FM's Mr. Froggy will be on hand for the event, co-sponsored with the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce.
Sleep Outfitters' parent company, Innovative Mattress Solutions, operates 49 stores in Ohio under the Sleep Outfitters and Mattress Warehouse names.
Humane Society part of Comcast Care Days
WINTERSVILLE - Comcast employees will join forces with the Jefferson County Humane Society to make some improvements to the Jefferson County Animal Shelter on Saturday.
Projects include planting trees, spreading mulch and planting flowers, repainting the community room and lobby areas, general cleaning, window washing, hanging new flags, installing cabinets, sanitizing of crates and carriers, sweeping and mopping of floors and organization of supplies.
The public is invited to join in with the scheduled tasks and purchase drawing tickets for the gift items that will be on display.
Comcast also will make a monetary donation for every volunteer who shows up to help. Breakfast will be served beginning at 8 a.m., prior to the work day, which runs from 9 a.m. to noon.
Volunteers are asked to bring tools relevant to the chore they wish to perform - shovels, rakes, wheel borrows, paint roller holders, etc.
Corporate sponsors involved in this project include Comcast, McDonald's, Subway, Wendy's, Burger King, Abyss, Lowes, First Class Customs, NAPA Auto Parts, Advance Auto Parts, Hauser's Furniture, Monroe Muffler, Domino's Pizza, Zalenski's Restaurant and others.
Harrison 4-H horse group hosts program
CADIZ - The Harrison County 4-H Horse Committee will host the April installment of its equine educational program at 4 p.m. Sunday with Ohio 4-H Horse judge Heather Pariso of Dover. The program will be held in the classroom at Harrison Community Hospital.
Pariso will discuss "What 4-H Judges Are Looking For and Common Rule Book Violations."
"This is an essential program for 4-H and FFA horse members," stated Sherri VanTassel, committee chair. The program is free, and door prizes and refreshments are provided.
Non 4-H/FFA members are asked to RSVP to Tim Tanner at the Extension Office at (740) 942-8823.
Power disruption affects Tomlinson
NEW MANCHESTER - A power disruption occurred in the campground at Tomlinson Run State Park. Electrical service to all other facilities at the park was not affected.
Tomlinson Run campground is open, but with limited services offered. As compensation, campers will pay a special rate, which will be in effect until power is restored, according to campground officials.
The campground opened April 1 and remains in operation through Oct. 31.
