BEREA, Ohio - The Franciscan University of Steubenville track and field program had another successful meet at Baldwin Wallace College's Sparky Adams Invitational, returning home with a school record and personal records.
"What do you say about a day like today?" head coach Vince Oliver said. "Because I don't know a single person that didn't give everything and get everything out of it. This is what we work toward. This is why we work the way that we do."
Freshman Suki Almeida set the school record with her 1:02.57 in the 400.
"We need to recognize Suki," Oliver said. "She has worked her tail off all season long. What she got today she earned and she deserved it. She is such a great example."
Junior Allison Huelseman placed sixth in the 1500 in 5:11.15.
Sophomore James Marra took fifth in the 800, running a 2:00.6, a personal record.
"James had a great effort," Oliver said. "He got boxed in early but he is so close to jumping right down below the two minute mark and once he gets it, it's just going to slide down. He did a great job in setting himself up for next week. It'll be a big week for James."
Sophomore Brian Tullier also ended the meet with a new PR, throwing a 12.7 meters (41-8) in the shot put.
"Brian has gotten better every day since that PR day a few weeks ago, and today he did it again," Oliver said. "He continues to amaze me. He knows he hasn't done his best yet and that is going to happen. What a great PR out there today in a very competitive field."
Both Sam Ivkovich and Emmet Delaney had solid days of running with personal records in the 800 and 1500 events. Ivkovich ran 2:15.66 and 4:48.53, while Delaney ran 2:22.74 and 4:46.13.
"It was a great day for Sam Ivkovich," Oliver said. "Sam is moving forward. There are only better things in front of him. Emmett also had PRs. As a freshman, he has a lot of miles ahead of him but this is the way to do it. He sees that the hard work that you put in gets results out for you."
Junior David Willems was eighth in the 10K in 36:53.8.
