JOINS STAFF: Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Allan Tissenbaum has joined the staff at Wheeling Hospital.
Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Tissenbaum brings a high level of experience and skill to the hospital's orthopedic team, addressing all orthopedic issues from fractures to total joints.
Tissenbaum earned a bachelor's degree in physiology from McGill University in Montreal and a master's degree in exercise physiology from York University in Ontario. He completed his medical degree at McGill University, where he served his orthopedic residency and fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine. Board-certified in orthopedic sports medicine, he has treated athletes at the high school, university and professional levels, including members of the Montreal Canadians.
Not only does he treat athletes, Tissenbaum himself is an athlete competing as a world-class sprinter. For the past 14 years, Tissenbaum has competed in the U.S. Track and Field Association and has been a national sprinting champion on multiple occasions. He also is a former World Masters Athletics sprint champion.
Prior to joining Wheeling Hospital, Tissenbaum was on the staff of Washington Hospital and the Tri-State Surgery Center, both in Washington, Pa. He also has served on the staffs of St. Clair Hospital and St. Francis Central Hospital, both in Pittsburgh; Jefferson Hospital in Clarion, Pa.; Monongahela Valley Hospital and Uniontown Hospital. In addition, Tissenbaum has been a clinical instructor in the department of surgery at University of Pittsburgh and Chatham College.
