To the editor:
As chief of the Toronto Fire Department, I have the opportunity and honor of working with some of the best people in the emergency services business. The Toronto Fire Department recently had two house fires that caused injuries to family members and stress due to the loss of personal items.
Members of the Toronto Police Department and TEMS have been on the scene at both fires. The personnel from both departments assisted the fire department with some of the basic jobs we do that can tie up a firefighter's time such as pulling hose, hooking lines to the fire hydrant, directing traffic away from the scene and various other tasks that need to be done.
I would like to say thank you to the police department and TEMS for all the help those members gave us, as well as thank the Empire, Stratton, Pottery Addition and Knoxville volunteer fire departments for the assistance those departments gave us at the fire on March 27.
The amount of property lost at both house fires was greatly reduced thanks to all the firefighters, police officers and EMS personnel working so well together. I would also like to thank the local Red Cross for responding to the fire on March 27 and helping the family on-scene as well as providing some water and other aid to the fire departments.
