STEUBENVILLE - The city board of education discussed pending legislation Wednesday night during a monthly meeting that focused on personnel.
Acting Superintendent Rich Ranallo said the district administration is advised of all legislation introduced this year regarding education or local school districts.
"We stay on top of possible changes. I will make board members aware of possible new laws," Ranallo told the school board members.
The board formally approved five hazardous weather days during the meeting.
Ranallo recommended the hazardous weather days as the reason for closing school on Nov. 26 and Dec. 10, Jan. 7, Jan. 8 and Jan. 21.
The board also approved allowing Catholic Central High School to use Harding Stadium for the school's 2014 home football games.
Melinda Young was assigned by Ranallo to coordinate all federal and state program and to be authorized to sign all applications pertaining to the programs for the 2014 and 2015 school year.
The board accepted a $100 donation from Craig Allen for the Steubenville High School Science Department and a $300 donation from the Steubenville Kiwanis Club for the Steubenville High School Key Club.
In other matters, a memorandum of agreement with Youthworks to use the Steubenville High School shower facilities for youth volunteers during the summer.
And, the board accepted an Ohio School Facilities Entrance Door Security grant for $5,000 each for Steubenville High School and Harding Middle School.
Ranallo credited Young and district Treasurer Lisa Bruzzese for securing the grant.
Approval also came from board members for a contract with Microsoft for education pricing on all Microsoft Products for a three-year period.
First Westminster Presbyterian Church was granted permission to use the Wells School property for a raised bed community garden this summer.
In personnel issues, the school board approved Michael Brown, Zachary Howarth, Scott Lane, Teddie Livingston, Marlee Penebaker and Adam Radakovich as substitute teachers for the remainder of the current school year.
The board approved the after school tutors and computer lab tutors for the remainder of the school year.
The approval list includes Jennifer Blackburn, Tiffany Pierro, Donna Iachini, Shanley Demitras, Donnie Reeves, Jennifer Fortunato, Cris Shorts, Julianne Runco, Lori Rawson, Tessa Morgan, Heather Hoover, Kristen Taylor, Danielle Kalinowski, Kelley Petrelle, Melissa Bowers, Tiffany Ribar, Katrina Morrow and Katie Eskridge.
A medical leave of absence was approved for Harding Middle School teacher Karen Rhinaman, and Rick Camilletti has resigned from his supplemental coaching duties for the 2014 -2015 school year for personal reasons.
