MARTT, Ruth Francy, 94, of Yellow Springs, OH, passed away March 14, 2014, at Friends Care Community.
She was born on May 30, 1919, in Toronto, OH, to Elmer N. and Mary Olive Johnston Francy.
She was a graduate of Toronto High School in 1937 and Ohio Wesleyan University in 1941. She was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and the equestrian team. She taught in Toronto and Worthington, Ohio schools.
She married Judson Wells Martt in 1942. They lived in Pataskala, OH, during the war, and then moved to Toronto, OH, in 1947 where Judson worked for Weirton Steel until retirement. In 1952, they moved again to Amsterdam, OH, where they lived on a farm on Rt. 43 for 46 years.
She was a member of the Amsterdam Presbyterian and Methodist churches, was a PTA president on several occasions, and was a Cub Scout leader. She was also a member of the Amsterdam Woman's Club.
She and Judson moved to Copeland Oaks in Sebring, OH, in 1997 and Ruth moved to Friends Care Community in Yellow Springs in August of 2013.
She is survived by her seven children, Macy (Roger) Reynolds of Yellow Springs, OH, Jane (Kenny) Boone of Plumerville, AK, Judson F. (Stefanie) Martt of Columbus, OH, Daniel F. (Ruth) Martt of Bethel Park, PA, Elizabeth (Dale) Dinger of Amsterdam, OH, William (Laurie) Martt of Yellow Springs, OH, and Shirley (Michael) Kendrick of Edmond, OK. She has nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Macy Cooke of Worthington, OH, and her brother Guy Robert Francy of La Grande, ID.
Judson W. Martt died in July 2013 in Sebring, OH. Her brothers William Francy and James Francy and her sister Anna Heischman also predeceased her.
A memorial service will be held in Yellow Springs, OH, on Memorial Day weekend. She will be buried in the cemetery at Island Creek Church in Jefferson Co., OH.
