WEIRTON - Dig your lawn chair out of the garage and mark your calendar for the Weirton Event Center's 2014 summer concert series, set to kick off May 23.
Local favorites like Deja Vu, Legend and Bone Daddy will be back for the free Friday concerts, but the third season of the downtown concert venue also will bring some new sounds.
The Davisson Brothers will perform in June and two acts from Pittsburgh - the Justin Fabus Band and Tres Lads - will showcase new country and rock and roll covers.
"More than 6,000 music lovers came out for last year's free Friday concerts. We wanted to bring back bands that the audiences loved, along with adding some new acts that will build on each week's excitement," said Danny Greathouse, executive director of the Top of West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau, which manages the Weirton Event Center. "We can't wait for the new season to get started."
One of last season's biggest hits, Beatlemania Magic, will be back again this year. Another new tradition will be the celebration of West Virginia's birthday on June 20. For that show, the Davisson Brothers will make their first appearance in Weirton, bringing a sound that intertwines country, bluegrass and southern rock and roll.
Additional information, including extra events, giveaways and other attractions will be announced at a later time and on the Weirton Event Center's Facebook page.
Gates for each Friday concert will open at 6 p.m., with music starting at 7 p.m.
