Tickets distributed

March 15, 2014
The Herald-Star
Dave Mathieu, vice president of marketing of the Health Plan of the Upper Ohio Valley, far right, presented tickets for the April 3 appearance of Capt. Richard Phillips to students at Wheeling Central Catholic High School. Also taking part in the presentation were, from left, Daniela Nkama; Jim Emmerling of Em-Media; Caleb Estep; Zach Fahey; Mike Young, Wheeling Central’s athletic director; and Kevin Hasenauer. Phillips will appear at 7:30 p.m. April 3 in the Steubenville High School auditorium as part of the Herald-Star, Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce Speaker Series. Phillips is the author of “A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs and Dangerous Days at Sea,” which was the inspiration for the movie “Captain Phillips” starring Tom Hanks. Sponsors for the series include the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times, the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, Eastern Gateway Community College, Franciscan University of Steubenville, Trinity Health System, the Health Plan and WTRF-TV. Support is being provided by Bayberry House Bed and Breakfast, Piergallini Catering, Newbrough Photo, Thrifty Car Rental and Steubenville City Schools. “As part of our sponsorship we have been allotted tickets to give out to 24 area high schools for the students to come and witness history come alive with Capt. Phillips. We thought it will be very beneficial for the students to come and witness something that was a book and a movie — now they get to see the real captain in person,” said Mathieu. Reserved seats cost $20 each and are available by contacting the Herald-Star at (740) 283-4711 or Chamber at (740) 282-6226. Copies of the book “A Captain’s Duty” can be purchased for $12 plus tax at the newspaper.
