To the editor:
The highest ranking official in our land is a Christian. God bless him. The second in command is a practicing Catholic.
Our representatives bow their heads in prayer before each session of Congress.
Are they following the greater law? It is the divine principle that assures all life is sacred and to be cherished.
Will the common authority hear the silent scream? Do they listen to the cry of the poor, feel the plight of the homeless or see the tears of a widow?
It's easy to sit behind a desk or in a warm, cozy home and degrade those who speak out, but do these people aid the aforementioned?
Let's speak about the practices of power. Through this long, cold, bitter winter, fires were kept burning, extra heaters used and layers of clothing worn.
Electric bills went up, cable stations were shut down and food prices hit an all-time high.
We watch children with guns who are angry, the use of illegal drugs in every town and the perils of road rage on our streets.
Who is practicing their faith? That of religious conscience is denied, crosses removed, beliefs ignored and prayer mocked. God is being abandoned in the minds and hearts of mankind.
My adoration is to a child born in Bethlehem who grew to give his life for us.
It is understanding the pain in the crown of thorns, the spikes in his hands and the lance in his side. What could he have suffered more in his last days on Earth?
Somehow, it brings to mind the torture of the unborn, as a foot, a tiny hand, legs, arms, a torso and a severed head lie on a clinic table. Did that precious child feel pain?
What true believer could accept this dismemberment as a common practice?
The faithful hold onto the heart and soul of a foundation so strong that it cannot be destroyed.
People are blocking out the miracle of birth, the unique quality of the elderly and the meekness of the believer.
The beauty of creation is overlooked, and closed minds cannot comprehend the time allotted to us in each day.
How many gifts will be given and disposed of? How many blessings will be sent and not accepted?
How many miracles do we need before we open our lives to believe in a greater power?
May God bless us all.
