The Bergholz Community Foundation is offering scholarships for the 2014-15 school year with applications now available.
Students eligible for the scholarships are 2014 high school graduates residing in the Edison Local School District.
Scholarships also are available to nontraditional students. These applicants must be past graduates of Edison High School or one of the Edison School District's consolidated high schools who are seeking a first-time associate or undergraduate degree or technical training.
Edison High School students can obtain scholarship applications from the Edison guidance office. They also are available by forwarding a request and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the Bergholz Community Foundation, P.O. Box 201, Bergholz, OH 43908.
The application deadline is April 11.
Completed applications should be returned to the address listed above.
Garden club meets
at Toronto home
The River's Edge Garden Club, Toronto, met Feb. 13 at the home of Sherry Foglio, where her husband, Tony, gave a tour and history of it, and Sherry served a meal.
Ten members were in attendance and answered roll call by naming flowers they have dried. Discussion was held on drying methods.
Sherry gave devotions on First Corinthians 13, and Ginny Popson read the December minutes.
Betty Stewart, treasurer, gave the financial report.
Sherry led the program on "Reduce-Reuse-Recycle" in the garden. She demonstrated how seeds could be started in items that might normally be thrown away. Members shared their hints on how they practice conservation in their gardens.
The March meeting will be held at the home of Mary Jane Ighnat and will be a documentary on the hummingbird.
SCS retirees have
Thirty-seven retirees of the Steubenville City Schools met for their monthly gathering, this one held Feb. 13 at the Gaslite in Wintersville.
Mary Virginia Irwin presented a box of candy to all in attendance, while Linda Holub gave everyone a peppermint pattie heart in memory of fellow educator Bill Croskey, who always passed out candy.
Rick and Nancy Shuster provided a Valentine's cake.
A card was signed for ill members.
Mary Coleman announced an open house will be held in honor of her 100th birthday. It will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. April 19 at Starkdale Presbyterian Church.
Frank Vostatek announced upcoming trips to the Cabaret in Pittsburgh and the First Ladies Museum in North Canton.
The trips are sponsored by the Academy of Lifelong Learning with a meeting set for March 15 at the university's St. Joseph Center for those interested. Gloria Renda will provide information.
Money and canned goods were collected for the Salvation Army of Jefferson County.
The group's March lunch will be held at Scaffidi's.
