Story hour has snowman theme
The Brooke County Public Library in Wellsburg will be holding a snowman-themed evening storytime, with Kim Harless, at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Library to screen 'Captain Phillips'
The Brooke County Public Library in Wellsburg will be showing the PG-13-rated film, "Captain Phillips," at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
The film is based on the true story of Capt. Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years.

The real Captain Phillips, the man about whom the Academy Award-nominated movie starring Tom Hanks was made, will be the third speaker in the Herald-Star, Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce Speaker Series.
Richard Phillips, who was captain of the Maersk Alabama when the seafaring cargo ship was hijacked by Somali pirates in April 2009, is scheduled to appear at 7:30 p.m. April 3 in the Steubenville High School Auditorium. Brightway holding candy gram sale
Officials with the Brightway Center are making and delivering candy grams on Feb. 14, but orders must be received and paid for by Tuesday, according to Cathy Takach, project manager.
The cost per candy gram is $10, and money can be delivered to the county 15 Road center or mailed to 2511 county Road 15, Rayland, OH 43943.
A Bible verse about love can be added to each basket if desired, including Corinthians 13:13, Ephesians 4:2, Peter 4:8 or John 4:7.
Mingo Center planning outings
The Mingo Senior Center is organizing a trip to Wheeling Island Casino on Tuesday.
Pickup will be at 9 a.m. at the Mingo Knights of Columbus Hall. Cost is $20 per person with $25 in free playback. The return time is estimated around 5 p.m.

Other trips planned include: Wildwood in May; Bourbon Trail in April; Oct. 13-15: Nashville, featuring the Opryland Hotel; Sugarcreek in June; and Hollywood Casino in September.
Weekly activities at the center include 10 cent bingo on Mondays; women playing 500 on Tuesdays; Shanagu meeting on Wednesdays; special activities on Thursdays; and regular bingo on Fridays. Prime Time lunches are served at 11:20 a.m. Monday through Friday. Dues are being accepted for 2014. They are $12 per person or $20 per couple. The newsletter is an additional $5.
