WEIRTON - An annual fundraiser that has become one of the biggest social events of the year is fast approaching.
The Mardi Gras Gala, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Weirton Heights, is set for 7 p.m. on March 1 at the Serbian-American Cultural Center.
Each year the Rotary club holds the gala event as a fundraiser for a local nonprofit group or organization. This year's selected beneficiary is the Table of Hope located at the First United Methodist Church at 3301 West St.

Tickets for the gala are on sale, and the club is looking for support from the community.
"We're looking for sponsorships," Club President Jenny Anderson said.
Sponsorship levels available include diamond, $2,500 and including 20 tickets; platinum, $1,000 with 10 tickets; gold, $500 with six tickets; silver, $275 with four tickets; and bronze, $150 with two tickets.
Individual tickets are $50 each.
Providing the entertainment this year is Adam Brock and his Soul Band.
Brock, sometimes known as "White Chocolate," was a semi-finalist from American Idol season 11. Born in the Pittsburgh area, he is the creative arts director at Central Assembly of God in Houston, Pa.
"We hope that will be a draw," Rotarian Dave Whalen said.
Created only a few years ago, Table of Hope operates strictly through volunteer efforts and is available weekdays to provide dinner to anyone interested.
"Everybody is invited," the Rev. Tim Conrad said. "It's open to everyone."
Table of Hope was created and is supported through the efforts of various local groups and individuals in order to provide its programs.
Conrad explained, since the program started, more than 11,000 individuals have been served meals.
The Mardi Gras Gala will include a variety of prize drawings, music, decorations and New Orleans-inspired food to fit with the Mardi Gras theme.
