CZOKA, Michael J., 79, of Brilliant, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, in his home.
He was born June 12, 1934, in Georges Run, Ohio, a son of the late Michael and Julia (Baliant) Czoka.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Ladis, Rudy, Martin and Elmer Czoka.
Mike worked for Titanium Metals and then retired from the BOF Continuous Caster at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corp. He served his country in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the former Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Brilliant. He was a social member of the Wells Township Sportsman Club, Mingo American Legion Post 351, Polish National Alliance in Steubenville and GKL Wildlife Association. Known as "Farmer Mike" to his friends. He was an avid gardener, winemaker and mushroom picker.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Helen (Chmelovsky) Czoka, whom he married on Oct. 28, 1961; two daughters, Linda Horsburgh of Mingo Junction and Michelle Czoka of Bridgeport, Ohio; a son, Michael E. Czoka of Warner Robins, GA; three grandchildren, Kyle Horsburgh, Kree Horsburgh and Alexandria Czoka; a great-granddaughter, Karsyn VanAuken; and a sister, Priscilla Friedrichs of Steubenville, Ohio.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. with Fr. James M. Dunfee, officiating.
Military services by both the Brilliant and Mingo American Legions following services at the funeral home Friday. Private interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens, Colerain, Ohio.
