Webathon held

The United Way of Jefferson County raised $12,000 toward its $440,000 2014 campaign goal Thursday night during the annual webathon held in the newsroom at the Herald-Star. About two dozen volunteers manned phones in the newsroom to help raise the money. Hosting the event was Executive Editor Ross Gallabrese, right, interiewing MaryAnn Donnelly, director of A Caring Place Child Advocacy Center, one of the 19 agencies supported by the campaign. Co-host for the evening was newsroom staffer and online writer Paul Giannamore. Beth Rupert-Warren, executive director of the United Way of Jefferson County, said while the webathon was successful, the 2014 campaign still needs nearly $90,000 to meet its goal by the campaign conclusion scheduled for Feb. 15. — Michael D.
