DICKS, John Richard Sr., formerly of Weirton, WV, passed away on July 28, 2013, in Greenville, TX at the age of 80.
John was born in Weirton, WV on Dec. 19, 1932, and was the son of John Calvin Dicks and Bernice Bork.
He grew up in the WV panhandle, where he was a star football, baseball, and basketball player at New Cumberland High School. After high school he joined the Army and was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. Following his military service, John used the GI bill to attend West Virginia Tech in Montgomery, WV where he earned a BS in Electrical Engineering and was a two sport star in football and baseball.
He married Rose Marie Paris of Weirton, WV on Nov. 27, 1957, and was the father of two children, Rosemary and John.
He had a very accomplished professional career which led him out of West Virginia and allowed him to work on many great technological developments including the Viking Space probe cameras and the Ballistic Missile Defense system.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rose Dicks (died July 23, 2008); and sister, Lockalee Dicks.
He is survived by his daughter, Rosemary Guerrero and husband Juan Guerrero; son, John Dicks, wife Denise Dicks and their children Justin and Kaeley Dicks; sister, Mary Eby and husband Ben Eby; and brother, Allen Wylie and wife Sandy Wylie.
