PATCHEN, Olivia M., died peacefully in her sleep on Dec. 9, 2013, at the Villa Maria Nursing Center in Miami, Florida. She was 99.
Mrs. Patchen was loved by all for her selfless kindness and inspiration.
She was born Olivia Carmella Mangieri on May 6, 1914, to Teresa and Pietro Mangieri who both died before she was 12-years-old
Her teenage brothers, Rocco and Ben, and her sister Mary left school to work and keep the family together.
Mrs. Patchen graduated from Smithfield High School and intended to study teaching at Kent Normal (now Kent State University) but the funds saved to send her to college were lost in a bank failure during the Depression.
She married the love of her life, Patrick F. Patchen, on May 16, 1936. Their marriage lasted 61 years until his death in 1997.
They had four children, Patrick N. Patchen, (Jean) of Pittsburgh, Brian P. Patchen, (Bunny) of Miami, Florida, Michael J. Patchen, (GiGi) of Pittsburgh, and Olivia M. Patchen, of Carmel, New York. In addition to her children, Mrs. Patchen is survived by 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Sunday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville. A mass celebrating her life will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church in Wintersville on Monday at 9:30 a.m, where she and her husband were founding members. Burial will follow next to her husband at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. There will be a vigil service 2 p.m. Sunday.
