Auxiliary Christmas party Thursday
The American Legion Argonne Post Unit 33 Auxiliary of Steubenville will hold its Christmas party on Thursday at Naples in Steubenville, beginning at 5 p.m.
Reservations are required and can be made by contacting any officer.
The unit will host its annual Christmas party for disabled veterans at the Legion hall on Dec. 10 with help needed baking cookies, serving the lunch and singing carols, according to Dorothy Mazik.
Jewett VFD to host dinner Sunday
The Jewett Volunteer Fire Department will host a fundraiser lasagna dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.
The menu also will include salad, bread, dessert and beverage. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children.
Pancake breakfast with Santa Claus
The Warren Township Lions Club will host an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast with Santa from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Tiltonsville United Methodist Church located at 106 Grandview Ave.
The cost is $5 per breakfast with children age 8 and under eating for free. For advance tickets, contact Roger or Margaret Warren at (740) 859-4479; Russell Reed at (740) 859-3162; or any Warren Township Lions Club member.
Proceeds benefit the club's community projects.
Holiday buffet for Four Seasons
A Thanksgiving buffet was enjoyed by members of the Four Seasons Senior Citizens when they met Nov. 20 at at the Serbian American Cultural Center.
Norma Yoho, president, presided at the gathering where members were entertained by Ron Retzer.
Members having November birthdays were singled out as were those celebrating anniversaries.
Sylvia Fisher won the free dinner.
Jane Barney and Carolyn Shaffer won the 50-50 drawing.
Other prize winners were Carolyn Shaffer, Nancy Saxon, Lois Molyneaux, Jasper Wamsley, Tom Maxwell and Anthony Beltrame.
The next meeting will be held on Dec. 11.
Pet pictures with Santa available
Hounds' Haven's annual "Pet Pictures with Santa Claus" event is scheduled for two sessions in December.
The first will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Dec. 14 at Jefferson Landmark on old Route 22 in Bloomingdale.
The second will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 15 at the Jefferson Landmark on state Route 150 in Dillonvale.
For a $12 donation, a pet can have its photo taken with Santa Claus, with the picture presented in a 4x6 holiday keepsake frame.
Participants should have their pets on a leash or in a carrier. Children and family members also are welcome to have photos taken.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit Hounds' Haven Inc., a nonprofit, "quality-of-life animal shelter in Jefferson County, dedicated to helping homeless pets from all around the Ohio Valley to find shelter, care and love, for a lifetime," a news release notes.
Retired teachers hold meeting
The Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association met Nov. 12 at Starkdale Presbyterian Church, welcoming two speakers.
One was Linda Beaver, the president of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, whose topics included membership and the retirement system.
The other was Dr. Matthew Nardone, who discussed health care on the physical, nutritional and emotional levels.
Local association President Dave Nicholson presided at the meeting where veterans were acknowledged and reports given, including from committee chairmen.
Larry Coleman, community service chairperson, discussed keeping records of volunteer hours served by members.
Membership Chairman Marguerite Andres welcomed new members and announced the association's membership stands at 242.
Reservation Chairman Ann Wiley announced the next meeting will be held April 8 at the Richmond United Methodist Church.
No members have passed away since the September meeting, Margaret Alice Myers, necrology chairman, noted.
Diane Neptune, informative and protective chairperson, discussed common foods that are good for the body.
A status report on the Pleasant Hill Schoolhouse Museum was given by Gloria Renda.
The community service project for November was collecting personal hygiene items for teen stockings for Urban Mission Ministries.

Weirton auxiliary party tonight
The Weirton American Legion Post 10 Ladies Auxiliary held its monthly meeting Nov. 18 at the post hall with President Shirley Brecht presiding.
Reports were given by Clara Robinson, secretary, and Gloria Jerrel, treasurer.
Historian Joan Spano gave pictures to Brecht of the veterans' dinner and Veterans Day ceremonies. She is addressing Christmas cards for local veterans in nursing homes.
Brecht received a thank-you card from Bruce Hornick, a Vietnam veteran who attended the Oct. 27 dinner. He plans to send all those who attended a certificate of appreciation and pictures of the dinner.
Brecht placed a wreath on the auxiliary's behalf during Veterans Day ceremonies.
The auxiliary is having its Christmas party at 6 p.m. today at Undo's. Those attending should bring a gift for the exchange. The Legion Christmas party will be held Dec. 21. The children's Christmas party will be held at 5 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Legion hall.
The auxiliary will not meet in December.
Jerrel won the 50/50 drawing. Marcy Spano gave the closing prayer.
The next meeting will be held Jan. 20.

The winner of the 50-50 drawing at the Fort Steuben Mall Craft Show held recently to benefit the Jefferson County Animal Welfare League was Phyllis Sciarra, who won $215.
