To the editor:
Just a reminder - the 34th-annual Ray Laman Christmas Party will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Wintersville Fire and Rescue garage. Children must be accompanied by an adult. They will be entertained with a sing-along with Kenny Wells, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, elves and Mrs. Claus before the arrival of Santa. After the party, Santa and his helpers will visit the pediatrics ward at Trinity Medical Center West for the sick children who are unable to attend the party.
This is the largest event of the kind in the area, hosting hundreds of children. We are a nonprofit organization funded solely through donations of area merchants and caring citizens. This is a community event for all children under the age of 10, and they come from all over, not just from Wintersville.
For some children, this is their only Christmas, so we try to keep the gift bags nice and plentiful. Without your generosity, this would not be possible. We urge everyone reading this to open their hearts and wallets for the area children. If you did not send a donation yet, please do.
Donations and comments can be sent to the Ray Laman Children's Fund, 60 Pioneer Drive, Wintersville, OH 43953; call me at (740) 264-2161; or contact the Wintesville Police Department.
Donations must be received by Dec. 12 to be entered into the program. May this year's event make the holidays for a lot of area children brighter.
