WINTERSVILLE - The Jefferson County Regional Airport Authority held a special meeting Tuesday to address the purchase of a courtesy vehicle for use at the airport and to hear an update on the ongoing runway project.
A letter proposing the purchase of the courtesy vehicle was tabled at the last Jefferson County Commissioners meeting due to concerns about how the it would be used.
"It's best to have the right policies in place first," Commissioner Dave Maple said.
According to Gary Folden, secretary and treasurer of the airport authority, the vehicle would be designated for use by employees and transport pilots, who are often in the county for one day at a time with no means of transportation away from the airport. This would make the airport more appealing to pilots, ultimately benefiting the county.
The authority established and approved a policy governing vehicle use to present to commissioners which includes a 30-mile limit on how far the car can be driven.
Michael Baker Jr. and Mark Baker of the Cast and Baker Corp. attended the meeting to update the airport authority regarding progress on the taxiway extension project.
Construction is slowing to a stop for the winter months but will continue in the spring with earth work followed by paving and electrical work.
"Overall construction is moving along very well," Folden said. "They've done a great job so far, and the board seems satisfied."
After an executive session, members of the airport authority motioned to rent half of Hangar A at $200 per month for three months at a time with the renter paying all utilities. A current lease will be reviewed and modified by attorney Robert D'Anniballe. Two parties have expressed interest in renting the space so far. The motion passed unanimously.
