Country Christmas program for club
The GFWC/Ohio Woman's Club of Steubenville's Dec. 2 noon luncheon and business meeting at the Steubenville Country Club will have a holiday theme that will feature musical entertainment for the members.
Country singer Claudette "Miss Jeanie" Slusarek of Weirton, who has recorded with Megalith Records in Nashville, will present a "Country Christmas."
Greeters and hostesses will be Eileen Krupinski and Marlene Rheuff.
Kathy Mills, president, will preside at the board meeting to get under way at 11 a.m.
Members are reminded to bring nonperishable food items and hats and mittens for donation to Urban Mission Ministries.
Mended Hearts presented plaque
The Mended Hearts Chapter 087 will join with the Prime Time Office on Aging for the annual Christmas party that will be held Dec. 14 at the senior center located on Lovers Lane, Steubenville.
At the November meeting at the senior center, President Jim Thompson presided. There were 13 members attending.
Thompson announced that a new chapter of Mended Hearts in Weirton is being considered.
Guest speakers were Becky and Don Whitt of Lexington, Ky., from the National Mended Hearts Association.
The Whitts are assistant regional directors of the Central Region of Mended Hearts, which has seven active chapters. The Whitts presented the local chapter with a plaque for 35 years of service.
Larry Bauer won the 50-50 drawing.
The October meeting featured Stacie Straughn from the Prime Time Office on Aging who discussed the importance of flu shots and reviewed tips to avoid winter colds and flu bugs.
Betty Thompson reported there were 67 hospital visits in September.
Mended Hearts pillows are on sale in the senior center gift shop for $20. The chapter received a donation of $500 from the Toronto Chamber of Commerce.
It was agreed that dues will be raised beginning in January.
The next meeting will be held on Jan. 15.
Thursday Music Club events set
"Sweet Harmony" from St. Clairsville High School and directed by Wayne Berk, will entertain the Thursday Music Club made up of area residents at 11 a.m. Dec. 5 at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1409 Chapline St., Wheeling.
Betty Davis, president, will conduct the business meeting before the entertainment. After the performance, the luncheon will be served. Reservations are required by Dec. 2 by calling Emily Mayer at (304) 232-1714 or Beverly Harrigan at (304) 232-0172.
Members DeEtta White and Virginia Fitzsimmons will greet members and guests, and members Peg Coleman and Judi Porterfield are in charge of table appointments.
The Music Study Group will not meet in December or January. Their next meeting will be held Feb. 10 with Mayer as the presenter. For information, call Lois Neitzelt, chairman, at (304) 232-0425.
The Thursday Music Club Chorus has been practicing every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon in preparation for its Christmas concerts. The group approximately 35 members from throughout the area.
Upcoming concerts will be held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 6 at WesBanco in Elm Grove; at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 12 at the Valley Haven Geriatric Center in Wellsburg; and at 2 p.m. on Dec. 16 at the Country Club Retirement Campus in Bellaire.
The chorus will resume practices in January in preparation for spring concerts.

The Thursday Music Club will not meet in January. The lineup beginning on Feb. 6 will be the Mallet Ensemble, Wheeling Symphony; March 6, Modern Strings, Wheeling Park High School, Ben Podolski, director; and April 3, Thursday Music Club Chorus, Chops, director, with Debbie Barlow, accompanist.
Let's Fight Together benefit Dec. 7
T.J. Anderson's "Let's Fight Together" fund benefit will be held Dec. 7 at St. Florian Hall in Wintersville.
Doors open at 5 p.m. with dinner and music at 6 p.m.
The event will feature Fallen Awake with Frontroom as special guest.
Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
Dinner is included with the price of admission. The event is BYOB.

Free diabetes workshop detailed
A free diabetes educational workshop featuring presenter Jennifer Springer, a registered nurse, will be held at 1 p.m. on Dec. 5 at the Diabetes Education Learning Center located at 2502 Sunset Blvd., Steubenville, in Suite B.
Topics will include what affects blood sugar levels, the importance of meal planning, how food affects blood sugar levels and what is carbohydrate counting.
Refreshments will be provided.
