TORONTO - The 2013 Great Expectations Christmas Parade, sponsored and organized by the Focus in Toronto organization, is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 7.
The parade begins at Fourth and Myers streets and proceeds down Fourth Street to Main Street, according to Brenda Cich, parade organizer and FIT chairman.
"Santa will meet and greet children at the gazebo immediately following the parade and will have treat bags for the kids on a first-come, first-served basis," said Cich. "Parents are welcome to bring their cameras for photos with Santa. There is no fee to sit with Santa."
Cich said the parade will feature a variety of entries, floats and local dance and gymnastics groups, as well as local safety forces.
"We'll be awarding first-, second- and third-place cash prizes for floats, as well as first-, second- and third-place trophies to dance groups," Cich continued.
The Edison Local High School Marching Band will begin the parade, and the Toronto High School Marching Band will be escorting Santa through the parade, Cich added. Also, hot chocolate will be available along the route for parade-goers.
"We are still accepting entries and will do so up to the week of the parade," she said. "(Those interested in participating) should go to www.FocusInToronto.com and select the parade tab for an online entry. They also should e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or call (740) 632-2477 for verification purposes once an only entry has been submitted.
"We're asking that everyone who has submitted the online entry to please call (740) 632-2477 or e-mail email@example.com as soon as possible," Cich continued. "We need to confirm entries were properly submitted, and we are expecting (those who registered to be) in the lineup."
