CADIZ - Village officials have been busy planning this year's Christmas parade, which is set for 6 p.m. on Dec. 7.
Sponsored by the Cadiz Business Association and chaired by Kathy Mishler, the parade route will follow along the downtown streets. Line-up will begin at 5 p.m.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the best float and best walking entry. Certificates will be presented to all high school marching bands that participate, and awards will be given for uptown and outlying business window decorations, according to organizers.
The business areas to be judged include the uptown central business district, which is two blocks in each direction of the town square, and the outlying area outside of the uptown central business district, but within a three-mile radius of the square.
Also, local businesses can participate by making a $50 sponsorship that will be recognized on the decorated main stage. All proceeds will go toward parade costs and providing a small gift, punch and cookies for children visiting Santa after the parade.
The deadline for parade entries or stage participation is Dec. 1. For information, contact Mishler at (740) 658-3370.
Guests can enjoy the drive-through Christmas Card Lane en route to meet Santa, who will greet children at Wallace Lodge in Sally Buffalo Park following the parade. Cadiz Lions will serve cocoa and hot dogs.
Earlier in the day, the Cadiz Lions will serve a pancake breakfast at Wallace Lodge, where the sixth-annual Christmas shopping open house will begin that day at 9 a.m. Crafters will be in the lodge throughout the day featuring jewelry, baskets, crafts, bags, baked goods and candles.
For information on the open house, contact Mindy Madzia at (740) 946-7015 or Mandy Caldwell at (740) 946-1830.
Businesses in the outlying area wanting to be judged in the contest should call the Cadiz/Harrison County Visitors Center at (740) 942-1102 and confirm participation. Decorations must be in place no later than 5 p.m. on Dec. 4.
Winners will be announced and cash prizes will be awarded in each category during the parade.
