City man sentenced to two-year term
STEUBENVILLE - Sir Damien Harris was sentenced to two years in prison Monday by Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge Joseph Bruzzese after Harris entered a guilty plea.
The 30-year-old city resident was charged with felonious assault after an incident in which a woman said Harris shoved her head through a glass door on Sept. 30 in the 700 block of North Seventh Street, according to City Police.
Police reported Harris also was a suspect in a shots fired case on Oct. 1. Police reported a house in the 1400 block of State Street was struck with 16 bullets.
Harris was arrested in Hanover Township, Pa., on Oct. 6 on drug and gun charges.
Harris was sentenced to five to 10 years in Washington County Common Pleas Court in May on weapons charges.
His two-year sentence will be served consecutively with the Pennsylvania prison term.
Election board to conduct test
STEUBENVILLE -The Jefferson County Board of Elections will conduct the public test of the tabulation equipment for the Nov. 5 general election at 10 a.m. Friday at the board of elections office, 117 N. Third St.
In-person absentee voting will end at 4:30 p.m. Monday. The office will be open for voting until 6 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Senior citizen coffee house planned
WINTERSVILLE - The Indian Creek High School Key Club will host a Senior Citizen Coffee Hour from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday at the school's multi-purpose building.
The event will feature ICHS students sharing their perspectives and experiences. All senior citizens are welcome.
Route 7 on-ramp to be closed
MINGO JUNCTION - The southbound on-ramp to state Route 7 at the Logan Avenue interchange will be closed to traffic on Wednesday, as work on the $2.55 million bridge replacement continues in the village.
Traffic will be detoured east on Logan Avenue to Commercial Avenue south, then west on St. Clair Avenue to Murdock Avenue, where it will enter state Route 7 southbound. The closure is expected to last six months, depending on the weather.
One lane of traffic is being maintained in each direction on state Route 7.
Shelly & Sands of Zanesville is the contractor for the project. All work is expected to be completed by May.
NAACP branch to re-organize
STEUBENVILLE -A re-organization meeting of the Steubenville Branch of the NAACP will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at the Hampton Inn.
The meeting is open to all members, potential members and the general public.
