Salon 807 officers announced
Jefferson County Salon 807 met at Eat 'n Park in Steubenville with Betty Rea, chapeau, presiding.
Eight et Forty 2014 new officers, in addition to Rea, are: demi chapeau premier, Hazlet Feist; demi chapeau deuxieme, Thelma Bronson; la petit secretair/caissiere, Lorraine Hazlett; l'aumonier, Carolyn Eddy; la petit concierge, Linda Mackey; l'archiviste, Hazlett; l'avocate, Mackey; and pouvoir member, Hazlett.
The salon will meet the first Wednesday of the month at 1 p.m. The next meeting will be held Nov. 6 at Eat 'n Park in Weirton.
'Gowns Galore' event detailed
Members of the Chester First United Methodist Church, 240 Carolina Ave., Chester, are sponsoring their annual "Gowns Galore" used gown sale, which will be held at the church from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 9.
Only cash will be accepted at the sale.
For a fee of $5 per dress, area girls are encouraged to bring in those gently worn prom/homecoming dresses to be sold at the price they establish. If the dress sells, the seller receives the money. Dresses can be brought to the church from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

All unsold dresses and/or money for sold dresses must be picked up at the church from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 10. Any unclaimed dresses will be distributed to charity. Book fair open to public Nov. 4
Wells Academy in Steubenville is hosting a book fair Nov. 4-7 with Nov. 4 being observed as community day, a time when the public is welcome to come from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Holiday and cookie sale Saturday
Wintersville Community Chapel, which is located at Ward Drive and Bantam Ridge Road in Wintersville, will be hosting its annual holiday and cookie sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
There will be many holiday items for sale in addition to homemade holiday cookies for sale by the dozen. A hot lunch also will be available.
Turkey dinner to be held in Brilliant
The Brilliant American Legion Post 573 Women's Auxiliary will be sponsoring a turkey dinner from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
The dinner will be held at the Brilliant American Legion Post 573 on Market Street., Brilliant.
The menu will include turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing, green beans, cranberry sauce and dessert. All tickets are $6. Patrons can dine in or get carryout items.
Conference offers continuing credits
The 23rd-annual conference on Promoting Healthy Attachments will be held Nov. 25 and 26 at Wilson Lodge at Oglebay Resort and Convention Center in Wheeling.
It will offer up to 14 continuing education credits for Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia counselors and social workers. It also is an opportunity for professionals and parents to hear from national experts on a local level, according to Michele Santin, director, office of Family and Social Concerns, Catholic Charities in Steubenville.
Dr. Ira J. Chasnoff will present "Mystery of Risk: Biology, Environment and Attachment in Children with Prenatal Exposure" on Nov. 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. From 5:15 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. there will be a holiday buffet dinner and learning session with guest speaker Gregory C. Keck, whose topic will be "Unique Issues of Adoptive Families."
The Nov. 26 lineup from 8:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. will feature Keck on "The Impact of Trauma on Human Development" or Jack Kammer on "The Importance of Fathers in the Lives of Children and Debunking the Stereotypes that Keep us from Providing Fathers with the Services They Want and Need." The 12:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. session will feature either Kammer addressing "Domestic Violence: Research and Ideology" or Darcia F. Narvaez on "Early Caregiving and Its Effects."
The training is being coordinated by Project Attach in conjunction with the Diocese of Steubenville, Office of Family and Social Concerns (Catholic Charities).

Diabetes center site of open house
The Diabetes Education Learning Center, which is located at 2502 Sunset Blvd., Suite B, Steubenville, will be the site of an open house on Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
November is National Diabetes Month.
Participants are invited to come and visit the nationally accredited facility and meet the staff, which includes registered nurses Jane Scott and Shelly Argentine and Hope Golden.
There will be educational material available along with door prizes, vendors and healthy snacks.
Quarter auction to aid initiative
The Jefferson County Joint Vocational School will host a quarter auction to benefit the Tony Teramana Cancer Center Dietary Cancer Initiative on Saturday.
Doors open at 2 p.m., and the auction begins at 3 p.m. Tickets are $5. Vendors include Pampered Chef, MiMi Blankets, Pink Zebra, Scentsy, Thirty-One, Mary Kay and Velata. Vendors are still being accepted.
The event will include snacks, drinks, door prizes, Chinese drawings and a 50/50 drawing. Proceeds go toward providing meals for cancer patients and their families.
