October 26, 2013

Apollo Pro presented the Jefferson County Humane Society with $1,000 raised during their first-ever Dog-O-Ween and Fall Festival. Walmart distribution center had previously made a direct donation of $250 in their behalf to the shelter, bringing the total to more than $1,200. On hand for Friday’s check presentation were Apollo Pro owner Tony Mougianis with Snow, a lab; Cassandra Howell with Faith, a chihauhua-terrier; Sally Wehr, president of the Jefferson County Humane society; Andrea Gallon, Apollo Pro’s marketing manager; Lisa Scovronski, Apollo Pro’s office manager; and Chris Elliott, its operations manager. Wehr told the group that Snow, a stray that was never claimed, suffers from glaucoma and is beginning a treatment regimen requiring eyedrops that cost $94 a bottle. “That’s what donations are used for,” she said. Snow and Faith are among the many dogs and cats that can be adopted from the shelter, she said. -- Linda Harris
