Richmond Lions hold guest night

The Richmond Lions Club held a guest night at its October meeting at the Glenn Mills Senior Center with President Phil Flenniken serving as host.

District 13-G Gov. Greg Halley, the health commissioner of the Wayne County Health Department since 1994 and a member of the Wooster-Madisonburg Evening Lions Club since becoming a Lion in March 2002, was the guest speaker.

Halley presented the governor's pin to Flenniken; Bob Alpino, club secretary; and Mark Johnson, club treasurer.

Halley has served in various capacities in the Lions organization and has received numerous awards, including three international president certificates of appreciation, the governor's medal of merit and the district governor's excellence award.

Halley's goals for his term include vision screening and training Lions capable of providing screening services for preschoolers in their community. He also will work with local clubs to increase membership.

Flenniken gave a brief history of the club and Lions International. "We are proud to be involved in fundraising projects, sponsoring activities, donation contributions, community projects, club activities and sight-saving activities.

The next meeting will be held Saturday at the Glenn Mills Senior Center.
