Taste of success

October 9, 2013
The Herald-Star
The United Way of Jefferson County hosted its 19th-annual Taste of Jefferson County Tuesday evening at St. Florian Hall, an event that featured a variety of area restaurants, caterers and bakeries showcasing their specialties for supporters of the organization that funds 19 members agencies. In addition to sampling a variety of food and desserts, patrons of the event had their chance at door prizes, mystery bags, a gift card tree valued at more than $1,000 and a treasure chest featuring, among other prizes to lucky key holders, three jewelry items donated by Discovery Jewelers. Emily Urich of Hammondsville was the grand prize winner of a diamond necklace valued at approximately $2,800. Patrons also had the opportunity to vote on who was worthy of the 2013 Best Food honors — Mama G’s Catering — and 2013 Best Desserts honors — A Touch of Elegance. Among those on hand for that announcement were, from left, Beth Rupert-Warren, executive director of the United Way of Jefferson County; Anthony Mougianis, campaign chair; Matt Parise, Mama G’s Catering; Stephanie Pethtel and Jo Ann Meyer of A Touch of Elegance; and Dave France, United Way board president. Jodi Scheetz, director of the A.L.I.V.E. Shelter, one of the United Way-funded agencies, was chairman of the event, the theme of which was “Gems and Jeans.”
