To the editor:
Dante Alighieri, in his "Divine Comedy," made it very concise and clear when he wrote about those who have lost the wisdom of the intellect in an effort to gain and retain their desired place among the elite and most prominent usurpers in our society at the expense of their self-esteem, with no character, to raise above their self-interest.
The Renaissance, the greatest evolution in history, exploits the creativity of the individual with intellect and freedom of choice.
Our Constitution puts it at the center of every human endeavor, all for the benefit of humanity. Yet. here we are are, hundreds of years later, still searching for the wisdom of the intellect lost in the shuffle of rectitude amid justice for all and one's duty of self-preservation against the dignity that humanity demands from all of us. That is, the ability to find freedom and to pursue happiness within ourselves with the God-given talent from birth to fly high in the image of our Creator.
However, we seem to have lost the ability to abide by the facts. Self-preservation has taken over and gullibility has set in to the detriment of everything we stand for as individuals and as a nation. We no longer demand professionalism and proven ability with integrity to occupy any high office in the land from those elected to serve us at every level. These elected officials no longer listen to their constituents, ushering mediocrity and manipulation by unscrupulous individuals bound to have their way by any means with no sense of duty to the people and land that has given them so much. Facts and knowledge are no longer the prerequisite - just a watered-down rendition will do. Sgt Joe Friday said it best - "Just the facts, ma'am."
Our Constitution has been undermined by no other than our Supreme Court, the nine justices sworn to save the law of the land. Case in point - the book "Betrayal of America" by Vincent Bugliosi, which explains how the Supreme Court decided to reverse the right to vote in the 2000 presidential general election by stopping the recounts contrary to the letter of the law of our Constitution that guarantees every citizen the right to vote and be counted in electing our president, a president who should be of the people, by the people and for the people. We the people are supreme here and no one is above the law, and that includes Supreme Court justices. This should have never happened in America.
I urge you to read this book. You will learn for yourself how nine, well-intended, justices of the Supreme Court of the land voted, 5 to 4, to choose the president of the United States for the first time. What a disgrace. What a travesty.
So, beware, America, for secularism and gullibility are making it possible to destroy the last vestige of decency and have taken over the last beacon of democracy in the land of the free and home of the brave.
