The Jefferson Society Hall of Fame has three new members as the 10th class of inductees was announced at the annual Jazz in the Garden held Sept. 5 at the Wintersville home of Derek and Lisa Ferguson.

Perfect weather prevailed for the Jefferson Society event coordinated by Anita Jackson, chair, and in appreciation of the support of society leadership donors of the United Way of Jefferson County.

The Jefferson Society was created 20 years ago under the leadership of William Wolter, Arthur D'Anniballe and Susan Hershey to encourage and recognize outstanding leadership giving among individuals, who have contributed more than $1.7 million during the past two decades.

The evening included the induction of three individuals into the 2013 Jefferson Society Hall of Fame: Sophie Schoolcraft, Mingo Junction social services director; Todd Piergallini of Piergallini Catering; and Suzanne Kresser, former director of the United Way and current volunteer, who was not in attendance but was later presented her award at the Steubenville Rotary Club's Sept. 6 meeting. Inductees are singled out for their outstanding contributions to the overall cause of the United Way.

Christine Hargrave, hall of fame coordinator, presented the awards and was among those acknowledging gratitude for support of the United Way along with Jackson; Dave France, United Way board president; Beth Rupert-Warren, executive director of the United Way; and Anthony Mougianis, 2013-14 campaign chair.

A musical backdrop came courtesy of the Sunny Sunseri jazz group for what was an evening of good food, good company, good cause.

Jazz in the Garden is made possible by the support of sponsors, in this case Tri-State Security, World Radio Telecommunications, Hindman Family Cos., Brightway Center, Teramana Enterprises-Hollywood City Center; Sodexo Food Service at Franciscan University and Jackson. The program bulletin recognized McCauslens Florists inc., Piergallini's Catering, the Sunny Sunseri Jazz Group and Tri-State Printing for in-kind gifts and discounts.
