The victory was a big step forward for the young FUS team who has been trying to find an identity with so many new players on their roster. The Lady Barons proved they have been progressing with each game by beating a team the lost to in three games exactly one week earlier.

FUS runners fare well
LATROBE, Pa. - The Franciscan University of Steubenville cross country teams ran well at the Seton Hill Invitational Saturday.
"We had some good races on a really difficult course against some top-notch competition," head coach Dan Kuebler said. "We knew we weren't going to do really well in terms of team competition but we were just using this as an early season measuring point to see how we are and to handle a really tough course."
Junior Patrick Flanagan led the men's team with a 14th-place finish in 31:10.
On the women's side, Colene Smith (35th, 23:06) and Molly Chambers (40th, 24:09) led the Lady Barons.
"We didn't see any other teams that we normally run against," Kuebler said. "We want to run against these stronger teams to challenge ourselves on a tough course, see where we are at. They did really well for having to run against mostly scholarship runners."
The Barons will run in the National Catholic Championships in South Bend, Ind. on Sept. 20.
FUS tennis splits

"They had to generate their own pace on the second match, which is often way harder to do than playing at the pace of your opponent's ball."
