FUS women win
BETHANY - The Franciscan University of Steubenville women's soccer team earned a 2-1 win at Bethany College Wednesday.
"We had many shooting opportunities but in the end the score didn't reflect how well the girls were playing to goal," head coach Clare McBane said, "and our defense did an excellent job minimizing threats against us."
Both FUS goals were scored after another shot had been attempted. Jordan Byrley made the first goal, assisted by Ashley Ruttencutter. Katie Roemer made the second goal off an assist from Hannah Cooke. The adjustments, initiated last game, gave Roemer more opportunities to put forth an aggressive approach to the game.
"Katie's always been a strong player on the field," McBane said, "and her presence has always been known on the outside wing when it comes to distributing the ball but this season and especially this game she's started to show up in goal scoring ways."

FUS volleyball loses
STEUBENVILLE - The Franciscan University of Steubenville's volleyball team dropped a 25-21, 25-22, 25-21 decision to visiting Wooster College Thursday.
"We had too many errors," coach Kelly Herrmann said. "It wasn't nerves as much as it was being a little too excited. Hopefully we got a little bit of that out of our system."
Sophomore Dani Link had 23 digs and 10 kills for the Lady Barons.
"Dani really got going as the match went on," Herrmann said. "She is really getting comfortable with the outside after moving in from the middle position."
FUS takes on Oberlin College at the La Roche College Volleyball Invitational at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
FUS men lose
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - The Franciscan University of Steubenville men's soccer team dropped a 7-1 decision at Geneva College Wednesday.
John Imbimbo scored the Barons goal.
Head coach Ward Rogers said his team was able to control the ball and pace of play at times throughout the game but didn't do a good job of adjusting in the second half.
"We were actually starting to control the play at the end of the first half," Rogers said. "In the second half we knew they were going to change their style of play and we didn't adjust to it very well."
