WEIRTON - Three players tied for medalist honors Wednesday at Williams Country Club as the Madonna golf team shot 155 to defeat Burgettstown (160), Steubenville Catholic Central (161) and Linsly (164).
Michael Rogers (Madonna), Austin Meronoff (Central) and David Coram (Linsly) each shot even par 36.
Matthew Lyons carded a 37, Thomas Gianni a 39 and Nick Mazur a 43 for the Blue Dons.
For Burgettstown, Cody Dobbin had a 38, Owen Miller a 39, Michael Couch a 40 and Hunter Lecker a 43.
Mike Manfresca totaled 37, Nick Ivkovich 42 and Josh Merriman 46 for the Crusaders.
Casey O'Korn shot 38 and Steve Songer and Ted McDonald each had 45s for the Cadets.
Redskins down Bears
UNIONPORT - Adam Freshwater and Cody Hopkins each shot 45 to be the medalists Wednesday at Red Oaks Golf Course as Indian Creek defeated Oak Glen, 182-212.
Jesse Rouse and Chris Riffee each shot 46 for the Redskins.
Haley Spurlock, Trey Reese and Jason Chappell each totaled 54s for the Golden Bears, whole Mike Watkins had a 59.
Redskins sweep Potters
EAST LIVERPOOL - The Indian Creek volleyball team kept up its good play with a 25-21, 25-20, 25-21 victory over host East Liverpool on Wednesday.
Alexis Fithen led the charge with eight kills and seven blocks, while Kiarra Kamarec added 10 blocks, four kills and two digs and Jessica Furda 24 assists, 16 digs, four blocks and three kills.
Bre Berryman delivered nine kills, seven blocks and three digs; Mallorie Sullivan 16 digs; Kaylee LaRue six digs; Brooke Spence eight digs; Bethany Davis six kills, three digs and two blocks; and Martina Marko six kills and three digs.
Indian Creek (3-1) visits Edison on Tuesday.
Crusaders beat the Bulldogs
BRIDGEPORT - The Steubenville Catholic Central volleyball team cruised past host Bridgeport 25-9, 25-15, 25-13 on Wednesday. The Crusaders (3-1) host Oak Glen on Wednesday.
Robyn Runkel totaled 18 points and 15 assists for Central. Madeline Gulan had 15 points, five kills and four aces; Monica Rigaud nine kills and three blocks; and Kamy Belardine 13 points and five digs.
For the Bulldogs, Amber Millard had seven points and two aces, Briana Massey three points and four kills and Cheyenne Flowers nine digs and two kills.
Big Red bounces back
CALCUTTA - The Steubenville Big Red volleyball team went on the road and beat host Beaver Local 25-17, 25-11, 25-19 on Wednesday.
Brittany Bodo 22 points, five digs and two kills; Annie Nehrbas eight points and five kills; and Carmie Biasi eight digs and seven points.
Mytia Barker collected 19 points, four kills and three digs; Abby Taylor 10 points, seven kills, four assists and two digs; Taylor Young 17 assists, 15 points and three kills; and Lysaih Rice two kills.
Big Red (3-2) is off until a Sept. 10 match when Edison visits the Crimson Center.
Purple Riders net a victory
MARTINS FERRY - The Martins Ferry volleyball team beat visiting Harrison Central 25-8, 25-18, 25-13 on Wednesday.
Katie Stackhouse had six points and six kills for the Huskies (0-5), while Jesse Ledger and Kaylee Toland each recorded seven digs.
Brooklyn Monroe added 11 points for Ferry, to go along with three aces and five digs. Tyrah King had nine points, three aces and eight kills; Shaye DeLeonardis nine points, two aces, three digs, 12 assists and five kills; Mercedez McLeod four points and three kills; Breanne Long four points and two digs; Lauren Bennett nine digs; and Sarah Staats five kills.
Red Devils topple Edison
ST. CLAIRSVILLE - The St. Clairsville girls soccer team parlayed a fluke goal into four in a row Wednesday for a 4-1 victory over visiting Edison.
Senior Taryn Barr lofted the ball deep into the Wildcats' zone from near midfield. The ball took one huge bounce off the artificial surface and barely went over the outstretched arms of Edison goalkeeper Katie Oinonen to tie the game a mere 43 seconds after the visitors scored.
The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead when Allie Byrley scored off a nifty give-and-go with Amara Proffitt.
St. Clairsville then received goals from Madison Keenan a pair thanks to Carlee Gillespie.
Oinonen finished with seven saves for Edison, which welcomes Magnolia at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Red Riders boys cruise
WEIRTON - Ryan Kirk collected the hat trick and Chayton Luevano added two more and two assists as the Weir High boys soccer team defeated Wheeling Central, 8-1, Wednesday at Jimmy Carey Stadium.
Alex Hannah, Ethan Gilbert and Anthony Veltri each added a goal for the Red Riders (1-1). Hannah and David Gianni each had two assistrs and Matthew Stonebreaker had one.
Matthew Tenaglio had five saves and Michael Ceraolo four for Weir.
Josh Pawloski scored an unassisted goal for the Maroon Knights. Chad Robrecht totaled 12 saves.
Wheeling Central was coming off a 4-2 loss to Oak Glen.
The Red Riders host Steubenville Big Red at 5:30 p.m. Friday and travel to Liberty-Harrison Saturday.
Huskies down Big Red
RICHMOND - Kasey Peterson was the medalist on Tuesday for Steubenville Big Red with a 38, but the Harrison Central golf team won the match, 194-210, at Blackmoor Golf Club.
Austin Kowalski shot 45, Ian Soho 48, Jarett Edwards 49 and Bryce Walrath 52 for the Huskies.
Isaiah Lee-Granatir had a 55, Jonah Moro 56 and Josh Gault 61 for Big Red.
