Friday is the deadline for you to submit nominations for this year's Community Stars to be honored as part of the Herald-Star, Weirton Daily Times Community Stars, presented by Weirton Medical Center program.
This year's recognition dinner is scheduled for Oct. 7 at St. Florian Hall in Wintersville, a time when we can make a fuss and pay tribute to unsung heroes in our area as the nominees can hail from Jefferson, Harrison, Brooke, Hancock or Washington counties.
Today being Tuesday, there's no time like the present to submit that name and 200-word-or-less reason why that friend, neighbor, relative, co-worker, teenager, etc., is worthy in your eyes to be singled out as one of the 10 Community Stars to be acknowledged at the dinner with an award and also featured in a story appearing in a special section highlighting the award winners.
Since 1998, more than 150 residents from throughout our area have been honored, and that has included individuals ranging in age from pre-teen through their 80s as there are no age restriction for this program.
The concept behind the program is elementary - we're looking to find 10 people who make it their practice to do the right thing simply because it is the right thing to do, not because they're looking to bask in the limelight.
Nominating someone is very easy to do with the forms appearing regularly in the newspapers.
The forms can be completed and mailed to Jody Wisbith, Attn. Community Stars, Herald-Star, 401 Herald Square, Steubenville, OH 43952. Nominations also can be e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or submitted on the Virtual Newsroom sites of the Herald-Star or The Weirton Daily Times.
Or you can even stop in the newsroom on the second floor and bring the nomination in person.
Whatever way you choose, now is the time to do so, to procrastinate no longer.
What are you waiting for?
